Tuesday 7th September
Would have been my Nan's birthday today had she still been with us. My morning of helping out in Theo's class which I really enjoyed. Oli picked up for the afternoon and then in the evening my first night out hashing for a long time.
Picked up Sweetie, Dolittle and Julia who was a virgin runner and headed off to Littlehempston going round the Drumbridges roundabout twice as I went the wrong way first time...must have been the excitement!!
We arrived in the car park and met up with Will and had a few hugs from various hashers, felt good to be back in the fold. I was wearing my pink bra t-shirt with the blue tits on and had written Gurnie's Back on the back of it...Elmo still insisted on greeting me with..it's so good to see you Guzunder!!! Naughty Elmo who will from now on be referred to as Elbow! :o)
We were called to the circle and Julia and Will were introduced as Virgins. Rick'OShea talked about Sneezy's funeral the day before and how lovely it had been to have been part of it. (It was a very moving time especially for me with Mum's funeral being the last one I had attended)
We were told teh Long was long and the short was about 5 miles....eeeekkkk I thought but then remembered that short cutting was an option especially as Maverick was present, only afterwards did we find out that Mav had indeed tried to short cut and had managed to do the whole hash and proceeded in being awarded a down down.
We set off and although I had intended to bob along with Boggy and Sweetie I felt obliged to show the virgins a good time and ended up nearly killing myself to keep up with Julia's very long legs and Will's quite fast legs! I spent the first bit of the hash explaining about the spots, dots and checks and what to call out when you see one. We soon got the hang of On On and Will soon adapted some calls to Echo and Marg. I don't think i've laughed so much for a long time...I know Boggy and I have been in hysterics with some of our antics but last night was funny. We were joined by the hare who was obviously concerned that we would end up getting lost especially when Will asked if he was sure it was this way...I laid the trail so yes it is this way. I had to laugh! Anyway Compo proved to be fun company as well and soon got into our sense of humour and before long the On Home sign was there and I felt a little sad that our fun couldn't continue for longer...but it did because there turned out to be not one, not two but three On Home signs for us to follow and all too soon, well nearly 9pm we arrived back at the pub. I searched in the darkness for Dolittle who I was sure would have returned...and after saying not sure where my friends are a little voice in the darkness said I'm here and there she was sitting right next to the car!!
We changed with a bit of a dance from myself due to the fact that as my trousers were pulled down Drag Act put her headlights on!! Oh well it's not the sexiest pair of legs but in the dark I could get away with it.
Off to the pub for a drink and it was great to see some very old and familiar faces, hugs all round as is my normal behaviour and a specially big hug for Snow White who was being an absolute star. I have so much admiration and love for her as I did for Sneezy God Rest His Soul.....I have decided that I'm going to do a Sneezy Hug T-shirt that will be passed round the hash with the hasher who most needs a hug wearing it on that week's hash so Sneezy will forever be part of us. That brought tears to my eyes seeing how touched Snow White was by the thought.
BUT it was tears of laughter that ended the night with the Down Downs being announced as being Poacher and Cosmo for haring, for Maverick for actually doing the hash! and wait for it Will was given a hash name for sharing with us that he had forgotten to bring some pants to wear with his running shorts so had to go commando and then worrying about his Spotty Bot!! Hash name alert hash name alert! For the rest of the hash he then proceeded in saying Please don't call me Spotty Bot, call me anything else but not that...so he had a down down and was called SPOTTY BOT!!
The laughs were not over as a few minutes later Spotty confided that Revenge was a dish best served cold to which I replied 'Read what's on the back of my t-shirt' as a very clever retort about my t-shirt which said Gurnie's Back in other words I'm back I'm on top form! Well his response to this was there is nothing written on your back because in my braggery moment I had forgotten that I had changed out of my Gurnie's back t-shirt into my hasher of the year t-shirt which has nothing at all written on the back. I laughed so much I'm sure I ended up with a damp patch!!! ;oO
It was a very funny night, with a little bit of exercise thrown in for good measure.
Thanks guys and gals for all the laughs till next week On On xx
